New York Jets Head Coach Candidates: Odds of Who Will Replace Robert Saleh

By Christopher Boan
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Now that the NFL regular season has concluded, it’s time for the 18 teams that missed out on the postseason to take stock of their leadership on the sidelines. For Ontario sportsbooks customers following NFL events, the New York Jets got a head start by firing their coach during the season.

The Jets axed Robert Saleh in October, the first team to make such a move this season. That is paving the way for owner Woody Johnson and his confidantes to get a jump on the search.

With that in mind, OntarioBets.com broke down the odds on which candidate will ultimately wind up replacing Saleh in New York. Four assistants are our leading choices as the postseason kicks off.

The Jets could turn to a rising assistant on a thriving NFL team: Defensive coordinators Aaron Glenn (Detroit Lions) and Brian Flores (Minnesota Vikings) are among those who fit that bill. There are plenty of quality options for Johnson to choose from this offseason, making this an intriguing time to check out our New York Jets betting guide in Ontario on the heels of a 5-12 season.

Who Will Replace Saleh in New York?

Our top choice for the Jets right now is Glenn, who has led the NFL’s No. 7 defense in terms of points allowed per game, at 20.1 PPG. We have the former three-time Pro Bowl defensive back sitting at +500 to replace Saleh.

Flores, the firmer Dolphins head coach, is second on our list at +650. Two more defensive coordinators are next at +700 odds each – Vance Joseph of the Denver Broncos and Steve Spagnuolo of the Kansas City Chiefs.

All four of those coaches are getting ready for the playoffs, as are three offensive coordinators farther down on our list: Bobby Slowik of the Houston Texans (+1100), Joe Brady of the Buffalo Bills (+1200) and Liam Coen of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (also +1200).

One outside-the-box possibility is Rex Ryan at +1500 odds. He was Jets head coach from 2009-14, going 46-50 (a .479 winning percentage) for Gang Green.

The Detroit Lions are Super Bowl favorites, with +300 odds, at NorthStar Bets Ontario Sportsbook as the playoffs get underway this weekend. The Lions and two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs (+325) earned the No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences and get a bye into the Division Round.

What we know right now is that New York will likely have to wait a few weeks to name the team’s ultimate successor for Saleh. Many leading candidates are preparing their current teams for a Super Bowl run over the coming weeks.
