The National Hockey League regular season resumed over the weekend, with all Canadians still feeling the glow from their nation’s victory in the 4 Nations Face-Off last week.
As Ontario sports betting turns its attention back to the NHL playoff chase, we wondered how well people recognized the league’s 32 team logos.
Using a quiz from Sporcle.com, OntarioBets.com figured out which NHL logos are the most iconic and recognizable. We created the ranked list based on the percentage of quiz takers who got the logo correct within the prescribed time limit at Sporcle.

How The Sporcle Quiz Works
For anybody wanting to test their knowledge and speed, the Sporcle NHL logos quiz gives respondents five minutes to fill in the blanks on each NHL team’s logo. Any words in a logo are removed. The logos do not seem to be in any particular order and the difficulty of having the words erased varies depending on the team.
As for the Toronto Maple Leafs, having the words removed does make things interesting, perhaps causing a second of hesitation for some – but it’s still a blue maple leaf. Anybody clicking on the words “NHL logos” on a quiz site should get that.

Which Teams Were Most Identifiable?
The Leafs finished fourth with a 92.7% recognition rate. That was just behind two other “Original Six” teams, as the circular black-and-yellow Boston Bruins logo (94.3%) was second and the classic Detroit Red Wings “winged wheel” was third at 93.6%.
The top spot on the list might come as a surprise to some: The San Jose Sharks at 94.9% have the logo most easily identified by people taking the quiz. It is, of course, a shark biting a hockey stick – that memorable image helps to overcome the fact that the franchise is much younger than some of the more tradition-laden teams in the NHL.
