A common element of modern Canadian culture, from the Maritimes west toward the majestic shores of the Pacific Ocean, is the use of emojis. Sometimes, emoticons convey emotions better than words ever could.
Whether you speak English, Quebec French or Spanish, there’s no denying that emojis do an excellent job of bridging the gap and conveying feelings.
According to Emojipedia.com, the use of emojis has continued to rise in popularity. At OntarioBets.com, your best bet for reviews of Ontario online casinos, we celebrate World Emoji Day on July 17. We wanted to see which provinces were using the most emojis, from July 8, 2023 to July 8. 2024. We used Google Trends to find and rank provinces based on search interest scores for “emoji.” Then, we found out which emojis Ontario residents search for the most, using the same criteria as above.
Rank | Province | Search Interest Score |
1 | Ontario | 100 |
2 | Alberta | 95 |
3 | British Columbia | 88 |
4 | Manitoba | 87 |
5 | Nova Scotia | 81 |
Across Canada, no province has as much interest in the various emojis that dot our zeitgeist quite like the most populated province in the Great White North. The home of Ontario sports betting scored 100 for search interest regarding emojis, taking the top spot in Canada.
Overall, Ontario’s search interest score of 100 beat out Alberta (95 search interest score), British Columbia (88), Manitoba (87) and Nova Scotia (81). Whether it’s in a text, informal email or a social media post, Ontario has mastered the use of emojis.
As far as individual emojis are concerned, the smiling with hearts emoji – meant to illustrate one’s love for another person – took home the top spot in the province, with a search interest score of 26.
That love-centric emoji beat out the sideways laughing while crying emoji in Ontario, with the latter finishing with a search interest score of 24. The blushing while smiling emoji was No. 3 in Ontario (15 score), followed by the crying while laughing emoji (12) and the heart-eyed smile emoji (eight).
