Top 10 Oldest MLS Rosters For 2025 Season

By Jim Tomlin

Not long ago, Toronto FC was a force to be reckoned with in Major League Soccer. The club won the MLS Cup in 2017, a year after losing in the final. But now Toronto seeks to end a four-year streak of missing the playoffs.

It’s only a few weeks before the 2025 Major League Soccer season. As part of our Ontario sports betting coverage, OntarioBets.com was curious about which MLS teams are projected to have the oldest average age. Using current rosters, we calculated the average age of players for each team and ranked the top 10 oldest teams.

Where Toronto FC Ranks Among Oldest Teams

Toronto enters the 2025 season as the sixth-oldest team in the league, with an average player age of 26.45 years, according to our research based on projected rosters.

The Portland Timbers are tops among the oldest MLS rosters with an average age of 27. LAFC is next at 26.73 years and Atlanta United is third at 26.63 years. All three of those clubs have won an MLS Cup in the past eight years but they all seek to unseat the defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy, which sits 10th on our list at 26.04.

The regular-season schedule begins Feb. 22 for TFC, with a match at D.C. United. That’s one of three away fixtures to open the season before the club has its home opener, March 15 against Chicago, at BMO Field in downtown Toronto.

Based on current projections, goalkeeper Sean Johnson is set to be the oldest player on Robin Fraser’s team in 2025. Johnson turns 36 on May 31. Defender Kevin Long (age 34) and forward Lorenzo Insigne (33) also help boost Toronto’s average age.

Fraser was announced as head coach on Jan. 15; he was an assistant for that 2017 squad that not only won the MLS Cup, but also the Supporters’ Shield and the Canadian Championship.

Caesars Ontario Sportsbook has Toronto at +4000 to win the Eastern Conference, tied with Chicago and New England for the longest odds. Toronto is also among the longshots to win MLS Cup, at +7500, tied with those two East rivals and Sporting Kansas City at the bottom of the operator’s board.
