Canada has its fair share of unique food items, but the good old pizza pie is still a perennial favorite throughout the nation and in the province.
National Pizza Day is celebrated in Canada (and the United States) on Feb. 9. OntarioBets.com used Google Trends to rank the five favorite pizza toppings in Ontario. We ranked the toppings based on search interest scores from data collected over a one-year span ending Jan. 24, 2025.

The standard starter for any pizza is cheese. For a lot of folks in Ontario, it seems to end there too.
Plain cheese pizza was the favorite among internet searches in the past year, with a search interest score of 75. Veggie was a close second with 65 points, lending credence to the thought that Canadians love to put healthy toppings on their pies.
Now, don’t get us wrong, there are still plenty of folks ordering meat on their pizzas in Canada. Pepperoni, barbecue chicken and sausage round out our list of top five favorite pizza toppings.
Canada vs. USA Pizza Preferences
We studied several American states for their pizza topping preferences. It turns out Canadians might be a bit healthier with their selections.
In 11 states where we did research for favorite toppings that people were searching for, no non-meat option (other than plain cheese) came close to the score of 65 that Ontario has for veggie pizza. Other variants that don’t include meat (vegan or Margherita) also languished toward the bottom of the five favorites in each state, if they were mentioned at all.
However, cheese was popular in every state, just as it was in the most populous province in Canada.
