The buzz around Toronto online casinos is accompanied by big news this week about brick-and mortar casinos in the province.
Ground has been broken on Ottawa’s new $350 million Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, the company’s first Canadian resort and casino.
And on Wednesday morning, Great Canadian Entertainment announced that its new $1 billion Toronto casino will open its doors June 20.
More on Ottawa Hard Rock Casino
In Ottawa, the groundbreaking ceremony at the Rideau Carleton Casino was held this week where the Hard Rock property will be. The complex will include a 150-room Hard Rock Hotel, including 22 suites. An expanded casino will include 1,500 slot machines, 40 live action table games, high-limit gaming and a Baccarat room. And there will be a Hard Rock Sportsbook to join the many Ontario sports betting options available.
The property will also have an 1,800-seat Hard Rock Live theatre for over 2,200 guests, plus more than 10 restaurants, bars and lounges.
The completion of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa is planned for spring 2025. Rideau Carleton Casino will continue to operate until the renovation and rebranding of the property is complete.
Since the gaming site at Rideau Carleton Casino, Future Hard Rock was added in February 2000, the City of Ottawa has generated approximately $6 million annually, with more than $93 million in total payments from the OLG for hosting the casino. This amount is expected to rise once the expanded facility is fully operational.
“The new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino represents a significant investment in the south end of our city. It will create new jobs and will build on the existing attraction at Rideau Carleton Casino,” said Mark Sutcliffe, mayor of the City of Ottawa.
