NorthStar Gaming Joins the Growing Ontario Sports Betting Market

NorthStar Gaming Joins the Growing Ontario Sports Betting Market
By Mark Keast

NorthStar Gaming has launched its new made-in-Ontario platform, NorthStar Bets, featuring Ontario online casino games and a sportsbook.

There are now 22 licensed websites belonging to 14 operators live in the province, according to iGaming Ontario’s website.

NorthStar Gaming CEO Michael Moskowitz said in a statement: “NorthStar was designed and built for Ontarians and as an Ontario-based company, we’re excited to launch in our home province. We hope to inspire a sense of home team pride amongst our customers as they discover and engage with our platform and NorthStar Bets content.”

Other players currently live in the market, including operators like PointsBet Canada and FanDuel Sportsbook Ontario, are saying the same thing, of course.

NorthStar does have an advantage in the relevant and timely Ontario sports betting content category, though. It has an advertising and marketing services arrangement with Torstar Corp., allowing NorthStar Bets users and readers of thestar.com access to real-time sports betting content.

NHL betting insider Chris Johnston headlines the NorthStar Bets content team with exclusive insights and commentary.

PROLINE Betting Stats off Big Leafs Win

The town is still buzzing over Tuesday night’s big 4-3 Maple Leafs win over Tampa Bay in Game 5, giving Toronto a 3-2 lead in the first-round series, with the opportunity to wrap it up Thursday night in Tampa.

According to the team at PROLINE, money was heavy on the Leafs Tuesday night – 63% of fans picked the Leafs to win the game, while 76% of PROLINE customers took the Leafs -1.5.

On the player prop side, 65% of the money was on Auston Matthews not to score a goal. Matthews scored the winner, the biggest goal of his career. With linemate Mitch Marner, 74% of customers correctly picked Marner to record an assist.

And at least one customer is living large today — after the Leafs had fallen behind 2-0 early, that person bet $1,000 on the Leafs at 3.25 odds, for a total payout of $3,250.

FanDuel Odds on Key Games

At FanDuel Sportsbook Ontario, the Leafs, with their comeback win, are now a -350 series favorite. The Leafs are sitting as +110 dog for Thursday night’s game.

Los Angeles and Carolina won Tuesday night as well to take 3-2 series leads. Carolina is now a -365 series favourite over Boston, while the Oilers find themselves as a +155 series dog to the Kings going back to L.A. for Game 6.

All three home teams in action Wednesday night are favored — the Rangers (-134) look to hold off elimination to the Pens while the Panthers (-215) and Flames (-220) look to take 3-2 series leads.

On the NBA front, the Celtics are a -5.5 point favorite over the Bucks in Game 5 Wednesday night while the Warriors look to close out Memphis as a -4 road favorite.

The Heat and Suns both took 3-2 series leads Tuesday night. The Heat head to Philadelphia Thursday for Game 6 where the 76ers are -2.5 point favorites. The Suns look to finish off the Mavs in Dallas as 2-point favorites.
