Vlad Guerrero Jr. Trade Rumors: Will Blue Jays First Baseman Be Traded?

By Christopher Boan
Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

There’s no sugarcoating the way that the Toronto Blue Jays struggled in 2024. The team's fans and their backers at Ontario sportsbooks felt the letdown from a campaign that ended with a 74-88 record, last in the five-team American League East.

Now there are suggestions that Toronto general manager Ross Atkins should blow the whole thing up. One candidate to move on is first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who turns 26 on March 16. So OntarioBets.com compiled odds on where Vladito might be playing next. We began tracking these last season and it seems the market might still beckon for the young star.

Vlad Guerrero 2024 Production

Check out our Vlad Guerrero MVP odds to track his chances of winning the award when the 2025 season gets underway.

The son of the Hall of Fame outfielder, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., is signed through the end of this season, with his 2025 deal worth $28.5 million, according to baseball-reference.com data. He avoided arbitration in the offseason but is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Guerrero said just before spring training that talks had broken down in regard to a new contract.

It would hurt to lose such a young, productive player, of course. But Atkins could land quite the haul, should the club decide to trade its star slugger. Toronto Blue Jays playoff odds would take an even bigger hit if they dealt such a productive bat.

Though the team struggled in 2024, Guerrero still was very productive and finished sixth in AL Most Valuable Player voting. He had 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, a .323 batting average and a .940 OPS. But players on last-place teams rarely win individual honors, so finishing sixth in MVP voting was probably the best Guerrero could expect.

Where Will Vlad Play Next?

Despite the current impasse and the looming threat that Guerrero could walk and leave Toronto with nothing after this season, we still have a 60% chance that the Jays will retain their star.

That would translate to -150 American odds at Ontario sports betting apps if this prop were offered – but these odds are exclusive to OntarioBets.com.

As the 2025 regular season gets near, now is the time for MLB executives to make some hard decisions about their future. That’s why Atkins could make a move that would send one of the club’s most likable players south of the border rather than signing Guerrero to a massive multi-year deal. We have installed the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres as co-favorites, each with +1250 odds, to grab Guerrero in a trade this season if the Jays make this huge deal.

As for preseason odds, Caesars Ontario Sportsbook has the Jays at +6000 to win the 2025 World Series.
