The Canadian Football League announced last week that it has a deal with 888 to be its newest official authorized gaming operator and advertising partner for Ontario sports betting. Week 17 in the CFL is set to kick off Friday, Sept. 29, marking just five weeks left in the regular season.
At the core of the partnership will be the 888 Rivalry Games with some of the fall’s marquee matchups. One of those matchups occurred last Saturday with host Toronto upending Hamilton, 29-14, on the strength of a 16-point first quarter. Three other matchups are slated including Montreal at Ottawa at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30. The other two games are: Ottawa at Toronto at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and Toronto at Ottawa at 7 on Oct. 28.
This is a busy time of year for Ontario sportsbook apps, with the CFL and NFL overlapping, plus the NHL regular season starting in a couple of weeks.
Reactions to CFL Deal With 888
“The CFL and 888 are the perfect match,” Roi Nadler, Head of Canada at 888, said in a news release. “Through our high-quality, entertaining and exciting games, we are committed to delivering an exceptional experience, ensuring CFL fans can find ways to keep the action going, even once the matches are over.”
The 888casino.ca brand — which falls under the same corporate umbrella as the 888 Ontario Sportsbook — will begin placing advertisements within Ontario’s stadiums, via TV broadcasts and on the CFL’s digital platforms.
“The CFL’s unique brand of fun, fast and entertaining football soars to new heights in the fall,” said Tyler Mazereeuw, Chief Commercial Officer of the CFL. “The changing colours of the leaves bring greater intensity, more electrifying action and even bigger stakes to the football field. Our partnership with 888 offers another way for our incredible fans to enjoy our great game and take in the excitement.”
On Wednesday, 888 and OpenBet announced the launch of Sports Illustrated Sportsbook’s first-ever retail sportsbook at Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan.
The CFL's regular season ends Oct. 28; its postseason starts with both the East and West Division semifinal games slated for Nov. 4. Both finals are on Nov. 11 with the 110th Grey Cup slated for 6 p.m. Eastern on Nov. 19 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton.
