The casino industry in Canada’s most populous province, an industry which includes Ontario online casinos and sportsbooks, will get a major boost with news of the new Woodbine casino opening.
The new $1 billion entertainment casino resort near Woodbine Racetrack will open this summer, the company behind the project announced Wednesday.
What Project Will Contain
Called Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, the 11-story project, near Highways 401 and 427, will feature a modern, Vegas-style casino experience. The facility is slated to have 4,800 slot machines, 145 table games, a 400-room hotel, 5,000-seat live entertainment venue, lounges, and multiple on-site dining options with plenty of terraces and viewing platforms.
The growing gaming scene in and near Toronto includes retail wagering on sports and mobile Ontario sportsbook apps, plus dozens of Ontario iGaming operators.
The latest retail development, designed by CGL Architects in association with Chris Dikeakos Architects, includes a major expansion of the existing casino, as well as pool, spa and retail facilities integrated with the existing racetrack operations. The existing Casino Woodbine will continue to operate until the new resort makes its debut.
“We see this as an unprecedented opportunity to introduce an entirely new, world-class experience in Canada that will bring together the best in casino gaming, exceptional live entertainment, dining, and accommodation in one very special place,” Matthew Anfinson, CEO of Great Canadian Entertainment, said in a release.
“We are very excited to reveal more about what this landmark destination will feature and what our guests can expect in the coming weeks, including the announcement of an opening date. This project has been several years in the making, and we are thrilled that we are close to bringing it to life.”
Latest Ontario Gaming Developments
Greater Toronto has seen a lot of casino news of late, with the province approaching one year in operation for real money Toronto online casinos. Great Canadian Entertainment’s Pickering Casino Resort, just east of downtown Toronto, has also opened.
That resort features a 96,000-square-foot casino and a Great Canadian Sportsbook, including a dedicated lounge where people can watch the Maple Leafs or Raptors, for example. Fans can also take in other live domestic and international sports events, have a meal or drinks, and place live bets at one of the several kiosks.
Ontario sports betting is a key part of the experience for guests. The casino has 2,200 slot machines, over 90 live table games and 140 live dealer stadium gaming terminals. The company just announced that Bryan Adams will open the 2,500-seat entertainment venue, called The Arena, on April 26.
Great Canadian Entertainment is a gaming and hospitality company with 25 facilities in Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
