Maple Leafs center John Tavares is having a solid season so far, with 18 points in 17 games, including a team-high nine goals. At 9-5-3, Toronto is second in the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Bruins.
It seems Tavares, the captain, is playing with more purpose than ever this season at age 32. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation sees something as well, naming Tavares ambassador of the Proline brand for online Ontario sports betting.
Tavares is the first athlete in a major sport to sign a deal like this with OLG. There will be promotional events and social media support for Proline.
“I am thrilled to be the brand ambassador for OLG and PROLINE because of its long-standing connection to sports in Ontario – I am sure I have played in arenas built in part with funds from OLG – and its overall commitment to reinvesting in the province, which benefits all Ontarians,” Tavares said.
The OLG has partnership deals with the NHL, NFL, MLB and NBA.
Getting A Jump On World Cup Betting
The FIFA World Cup 2022 is fast approaching as host Qatar opens the tournament on Sunday against Ecuador. Canada, in its first World Cup since 1986, is set to take on Belgium in their first Group F match on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. Eastern.
PointsBet Sportsbook Ontario is getting a fast jump on the live sports betting side of things, with the announcement that it has launched a new, expanded suite of betting offerings ahead of the tournament.
The operator’s OddsFactory proprietary technology integration is at the heart of their new offerings, meant to set up PointsBet as the Canadian sportsbook with the most available betting markets in the industry in Canada.
In total they’ll deliver over 130 live market betting options for soccer during the World Cup. These options include one-minute and five-minute Lightning Bet markets like Free Kick Awarded, Goal Scored, Goal Kick Awarded, Shots On Target. Bettors will be able to build a same game parlay pre-match, as well as during the match.
PointsBet’s Plans For World Cup
PointsBet is betting on a pent-up demand for live soccer wagering at Ontario betting apps like theirs.
"An important part of fulfilling (our) mission comes from realizing the uniquely global landscape that is Canadian sport, and the incredible breadth of influence our sports fans hold,” PointsBet Canada CEO Scott Vanderwel said. “Soccer is full of live betting opportunities and is also a language that is almost universally understood while capable of bringing folks together. We look forward to making PointsBet Canada the go-to sportsbook for World Cup betting, with more live wagering options than the competition, and therefore more opportunities to amplify fan engagement.”
