There’s been plenty of news around Ontario sports betting with the four traditional major pro sports leagues, so this week’s announcement that NorthStar Gaming Inc. has been named an Authorized Sports Betting Operator of the NBA in the province came as no surprise.
NorthStar Bets touts its ability to provide NBA bettors with league data. The operator says it will offer bettors improved navigation on the platform along with NBA marks and logos.
A highly competitive sports betting market in Ontario means operators will turn over every rock to get a competitive advantage.
NorthStar Capitalizes on Toronto Raptors' Popularity
In this case, NorthStar will get to hitch its wagon to the Toronto Raptors, off to a fast start at 5-3 entering Friday night’s game at the Dallas Mavericks. There’s building excitement for the team in the market.
"As an Authorized Gaming Operator, NorthStar Gaming will connect our players with official data and stats from the NBA and provide them with an insights-packed user experience," said Michael Moskowitz, Chief Executive Officer and a founding partner of NorthStar Gaming.
NorthStar will offer more pre-game and live in-game betting experiences. NorthStar Gaming, one of a growing number of Ontario sports betting apps, also has similar agreements with other sports leagues, like the NHL.
Inaugural Gaming Impact Report From OLG
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation released its inaugural impact report, called Where Play Meets Purpose, covering the developments since Ontario gambling sites launched in April.
The report details initiatives over the past three years where gaming funds have been given back to the province, to support government priorities. Since April 2019, over $4.4 billion has been re-invested in the province.
OLG offerings include Northstar casino ontario gaming, horse racing, charitable gaming, and digital gaming. Safe and responsible gambling is at their core, the governing body says. Make sure to check out the NorthStar Bets Ontario Casino as well.
According to the document, proceeds from OLG’s digital business in the 2021-22 fiscal year increased 44%, or $155 million, over the previous year. More specific sports betting revenue data results from OLG are expected soon.
Bills Continue To Dominate Betting Interest
According to OLG PROLINE numbers, the most popular event of the past week was the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers.
The Bills are considered a semi-home team in Ontario, plus Buffalo’s great form has translated into very strong betting numbers. The third most popular bet of the entire week was Buffalo -10.5 points, taken by 66% of the bettors. But the Bills won by 10 so that extra half point went against the public.
The Over/Under bet on the game was also in-demand and ended up being the heaviest wagered total of the week. Having Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen in the matchup was the major impetus in 84% of the bets going Over on the 46.5. But with a 27-17 final, the total of 44 meant that the Under cashed.
Under the “interesting bet of the week” headline, at PROLINE, a player turned $5 into $5,549 via a 7-team parlay. It contained a few impressive NBA Moneyline upsets: Charlotte over Golden State, Indiana over Brooklyn, Oklahoma City over Dallas, and rounded out with Sacramento, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Utah.
Another individual bet a confident $2,500 on a 6-team parlay to cash $28,237.45. Their NFL Moneyline picks included Denver, Tennessee, Buffalo, New England, Philadelphia and Dallas.
In addition to these sports wagering options, the best Ontario casino apps are on offer throughout the province at OntarioBets.com.
