Still No Word From AGCO On Potential Changes To Advertising Standards

Back during the Canadian Gaming Summit in mid-June, AGCO chief executive officer Tom Mungham told an audience that a decision on proposed changes to the Advertising Standards was “weeks away, not months.”

The AGCO has been engaging Ontario sports betting industry stakeholders on proposed changes to standards that would restrict athlete and celebrity participation in igaming advertising.

With August fast approaching, there is still no announcement.

“I know you’re anxious to hear from the registrar on this issue,” Mungham said back in June. Mungham told the conference the AGCO received 38 responses to that callout for consultation, from igaming and land-based operators, to the charitable gaming sector, and community groups, all the way to organizations in the health field.

Ohtani Odds Of Monumental Interest

There is all kinds of online buzz about the odds the L.A. Angels will trade superstar pitcher/hitter Shohei Ohtani before the MLB trade deadline Aug. 1.
Yesterday baseball writer Jeff Passan posted the odds-on favorites to acquire him are the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays - and Toronto Blue Jays – according to his reporting.

The Jays bullpen imploded last night in Los Angeles, giving up a late inning four-spot to the Dodgers, losing 8-7. The team is 56-46 and sits 6.5 games back of Baltimore in the American League East and are third in the wildcard race (as of Wednesday afternoon).

BetRivers Ontario this morning had an MLB special with odds on where Ohtani ends up – the Angels are at -150, followed by “Any Other Team” at +350, New York Yankees at +400, Rays at +450, Philadelphia Phillies at +650, San Francisco Giants at +750, then the Orioles at +850.

That’s a surprise, considering where the Orioles are in the standings, and the strength of their minor league system.

A trade to the Jays doesn’t make as much sense, since Ohtani has already said he’s leaning towards signing with a West Coast team when he hits free agency this summer, plus the Jays’ minor system is already thin as it is.

That said, this piece may be of interest if you're looking at who the Jays could add over the weekend via trade: Blue Jays Best Mid-Season Acquisitions of the 21st Century.
