Undoubtedly, the love story that developed between pop icon Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was the biggest story of this NFL season. While haters gonna hate, many football fans and more Swifties couldn’t get enough of the newest “it” couple. So, it’s only appropriate that the story continues through to the Super Bowl.
And with the big game being the largest wagering event in the U.S., filled with novelty bets galore, you had to know all too well that some sportsbook would capitalize on the moment. In Canada, that would be FanDuel Ontario Sportsbook.
The Flutter Entertainment operator has included Swift in several wagering markets. She’s one of 19 entertainers listed on the market for special guest performer during the halftime show. Her odds are +550 (meaning a $100 winning wager would net a $550 profit) that she joins Usher on the stage with a microphone. Alicia Keys is the favorite at -320 (meaning a $320 winning wager would net a $100 profit). FanDuel even offers odds (+2500) on whether she’ll appear on the local Ontario broadcast of the All-Star Game on Saturday in Toronto. She has a concert in Tokyo that day, so don’t blame me if you lose that bet.
But the market at Ontario betting sites drawing the most attention is whether Kelce, the Kansas City tight end, proposes to Swift on the field after the game. As of Tuesday afternoon, odds are +920 that he does – with or without paper rings – and -2200 that he doesn’t.
Look What You Made FanDuel Do
In a statement to OntarioBets.com, FanDuel Canada said its trading team has been working diligently on Super Bowl markets. It’s almost as if traders had a blank space to work with, especially with a superstar like Swift.
“We’re thrilled to have recently launched a new market for Ontarians that has seen significant interest – do you think Travis Kelce will pop the question?” the statement read. “Ontario customers will also be able to bet on ‘Will MVP mention Taylor Swift in their speech?’”
Unlike Ontario sports betting apps, American state gaming commissions don’t offer such markets. Some states will allow wagering on the Academy Awards, but even that can be a delicate issue for regulators. A FanDuel US spokesperson confirmed the wagering opportunities would not be available outside of Canada.
Niners-Chiefs Super Bowl Odds
Americans, though, can likely shake it off since they can still wager on many other markets tied to the game. K.C. quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the +140 favorite to win the game’s MVP award, and San Francisco QB Brock Purdy is next at +200. Should Purdy win (you can get +225 on the Niners signal-caller to do so at DraftKings Ontario Sportsbook), it could be a cruel summer for Chiefs fans.
Kelce, by the way, is available at +2100 to win the award at FanDuel in the final NFL game that will be played until August.
The 49ers and Chiefs, both teams that wear red, played against each other in the championship game just four years ago, so there could be some bad blood between them as San Fran looks to avenge that 31-20 loss. The Niners are the 1.5-point favorites over the Chiefs at FanDuel to win and be bejeweled with Super Bowl rings. But if you like the Chiefs and want an extra half a point, the spread is Kansas City +2 at NorthStar Bets Ontario Sportsbook and several other operators.
