What Olympic Sport Are Canadians Anticipating The Most?

Three years ago, the Canadian Olympic team placed 10th in overall medals at the COVID-delayed Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. So, for fans and Ontario sportsbooks, it’s fair to say that this summer’s games in Paris are a hot topic in the Great White North.

For instance, in men’s basketball – where Canada seeks its first Olympic medal since 1936 – the team has the second-best odds of any team. DraftKings has Canada at +1100, behind only the U.S. squad (favorites at -500 odds) with the operator.

See our Canadian men’s Olympic basketball team analysis for a look at the team’s roster.

The Canadian women’s basketball team has longer odds (ranking seventh out of 12 teams at +3500 to win gold in Paris), but there’s no denying that Canadians seem ready to watch their countrymen shine on the hardwood in Paris.

Which Sports Are Canadians Most Interested In?

Given the potential that the men’s team has, it’s likely no surprise that basketball is the most searched Olympic sport in Canada in the four-week span we studied. According to our analysis, hoops has a search interest score of 27, just ahead of soccer (search interest score of 25).

The Canadian men’s soccer team did not qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The women’s soccer team, which won gold at the Tokyo Games, has +1400 gold medal odds at DraftKings Ontario Sportsbook, ranking eighth out of 12 teams.

Rounding out the list of the sports that Canadians are searching for the most ahead of the Summer Games were triathlon (24 search interest score), golf (22), diving (14), gymnastics (12), weightlifting (nine), tennis (eight), then surfing and swimming (five each).

Regardless of which Olympic sport Canadians are searching for, it seems like a sure bet that they’ll be tuned in when the 2024 Paris Games kick off on July 26. That launches what should be a three-week period of sporting excellence for the country at large.
